When I was seven I fell and broke one of my front teeth. I feel this experience was one of the defining moments of my life and I spent a lot of time in the dental chair throughout my childhood trying to get my tooth to look right-and stay in! Some of my experiences were wonderful and some of them were scary. I got to experience what my patients go through on a daily basis and saw a lot of different dental styles and realized that I wanted to take care of patients and their smiles like they were part of my family and create happy dental memories for kids and adults.
I’ve built my dental practice around the idea of creating relationships that last a lifetime. The joy in my days comes from getting to know my patients and sharing in their lives. Make an appointment today if you’d like to see the difference my team and I can make in your family’s journey to oral health.
Of course my educational background is important too. I graduated from the University of Alberta’s Dentistry program in 1998 and have been practicing in Tsawwassen ever since. I’m an active member of several study groups including Treatment Options and Prosthodontics and Current Practices in Restorative Dentistry. I’m SMART certified in safe amalgam removal. My passion is to provide conservative and quality dentistry with a special interest in taking special care of people with dental phobias. Since graduation from dental school I have completed extensive training in root canals, Invisalign, crowns, kids dentistry and functional medicine (which is the science of getting to the root cause of health issues).
Outside of dentistry I’m married with twin boys that keep me very busy. Between driving them to hockey, dance, golf and climbing it’s hard to squeeze in good dental habits so I understand the frustrations parents can feel about the daily grind of caring for a family of mouths! I’m a passionate photographer and an avid reader of everything I can get my hands on and I also enjoy paddle boarding in the Semiahmoo Bay and volunteering at my kids’ school.
Most of my dental visits growing up were uneventful, but one procedure in particular had a monumental impact on my life: braces. Not only did my confidence grow with my new smile, but also my interest in dentistry was born. Dentistry seemed like the perfect match — my background was in science, I enjoyed building relationships with people and I liked working with my hands. When discussing this potential career with family friends, some of them told me that they loved their dentists. I immediately thought, “Could this be possible?”, then my second thought was “That is exactly the kind of dentist I want to be!”. I am a believer of gentle dental and conservative treatment. All my patients are treated like how I would want to be treated. If you would like to work together on your oral health in a non-judgmental environment, consider giving our office a call.
I grew up in Vancouver and went to dental school in the University of Toronto. Dentistry is ever-changing with new techniques and I am committed to a lifelong journey of learning. I am currently a member of several dental associations and study clubs. In my spare time, I like to travel, draw, try new restaurants and catch the latest movie. Sometimes I bake a few treats to satisfy that huge sweet tooth of mine.
I look forward to meeting you!
